We, along with our two dogs Wally and Molly, made the move to the Big Island on August 27, 2003. It was the culmination of not only a dream come true, but also much hard work and planning to make our move as smooth as possible. By writing down our experiences on this page we hope we can help other people as they get ready to make the big move. Please send us email if you have any questions about moving to Hawaii and we'll post our answer here for the benefit of everyone.
We first ran our homes as vacation rentals and then converted them into long-term rentals when we moved to Denver for grad school in 2008.
We've received a lot of questions over the years about moving to the Big Island. Read the questions and answers in our Moving Q&A section.
A common question is how to connect with the local community. A great way to make friends and become a part of the community is to join an outrigger canoe club. We were members of Kamehameha Canoe Club, who are always looking for new paddlers. It's a lot of fun and a great way to get in shape. No experience necessary.
If anyone has other questions you would like answered, pleasesend us an emailand we'll answer it in our Moving Q&A section.
